I'm not going to lie, Christmas really snuck up on me this year. To be honest, I'm not even sure if we have all the gifts we need for everyone, and Christmas Eve is tomorrow! This is all to say that if I was more on top of thing, I probably would have written this post earlier. Oh well! Anyway, here are some fitness-related gifts that I personally recommend, or am really interested in trying myself.
Up first is MacroFactor, which is hands down the best food tracking app I've ever used, and its only poised to get better. Logging food is incredibly easy, especially if you're someone like me who tends to eat the same things regularly. MacroFactor will automatically adjust your macro targets every week to keep you on track towards your goals and is so loaded with features that the $71.99 price tag feels like a steal. MacroFactor is also rolling out a new workouts app, and both will be offered as a bundle for $89.99 a year. As someone currently using Jeff Nippard's spreadsheet-based workouts, I'm excited to start tracking with a more sophisticated system.
I've recommended MacroFactor to several people. If you've spend any time at all with me in the years since the pandemic, chances are nearly 100% that I've recommended a pair of adjustable dumbbells to you. I'm a firm believer that everyone should do some form of resistance training, and that most people can get a great workout with just a pair of adjustable dumbbells and an adjustable bench. I personally use the Bowflex 1090s, the heavier version of the 552s that Coop from Garage Gym Reviews slams in the video above. It's worth noting that the original adjustable Bowflex dumbbell series has been recalled and they have been redesigned. I still have my pre-recall set and I've never had any issues with them. That said, I might go with a different brand were I buying them new today. The video above is a good overview, even if the Bowflex scores poorly. There's certainly some personal preference at work - for example, Coop gives the Powerblocks set a B ranking, and I absolutely hate Powerblocks.
Now we're getting into "stuff Jeremy wants" territory. I said above that most people can get a great workout with an adjustable bench and dumbbells. If you want to take things to the next level, then you might need some more specialized gear. The Nordbench Pro is a versatile tool with many different uses, most of which are lower body-focused. Like many men, that's an area where I could use some additional work, and I've had my eyes on this piece of equipment for a while now. I'm really interested in how one piece of equipment can support such a wide variety of exercises, and it seems remarkably well-designed and easy to use. Are you listening, Santa? Or Satan? I'd accept it from either one.
And hell, since I'm asking Satan to bring me stuff, he might as well throw in the Torque Fitness ANKER 7 while he's at it. I have been fully converted to the cult of cable machines over the last year, and I would absolutely love to have one at home. The ANKER 7 is a well-reviewed and reasonably affordable option. Just because I'm asking Satan to bring me presents doesn't mean I shouldn't still be frugal about it.
Happy holidays, y'all.
