A short update this week because reasons. It could be even shorter - I could just say "Keep listening to the new Neurosis album" and leave it at that. I'm not doing that, although you should totally keep listening to the new Neurosis album. 

Elder has a new album on the way later this spring, and you can listen to the first track off it now. "Through Zero" is very, very proggy, which shouldn't be a surprise to any Elder fans. I will say this hardly qualifies as prog metal - this is straight up prog rock straight out of a Yes album. That's not a complaint!

This is interesting. First Flesh by Flesh Planet is a little bit industrial, a little bit shoegaze, and a little bit grunge. These folks would have been right at home touring with KMFDM back in the 90s or Health today. 

So, Enslaved dropped a couple of sea shanties today? Okay. I'm not sure that I actually like this, but it's at least interesting.

And for something completely different, here's Optimizer, the new album by Chicago's noisy punk band ​Stuck. What I like about this band is that they're fuzzy and weird, while still occasionally reaching soaring, anthemic heights. There's also a strong DEVO vibe on this one. Really good shit. 

Finally, here's the new single from the upcoming album from Minnesota's own ​Panopticon. I'm not typing out that album name, sorry. But hey, this first track, 'The White Cedars," no problem.  Austin Lunn has such a diverse set of influences that you never know what you're going to get with a new Panopticon album. Will it be black metal, folk, or a a little bit of both? This track is fairly straightforward black metal, albeit with some lovely stringed instrumentation worked in. There are some Panopticon albums that work much better for me than others, but based on this track alone, the new one is going to be one that hits.
