It's Friday, and today's selection of new releases is... bizarre. But, we like bizarre around these parts. We'ce got covers, EPs, collabs, singles, and compilations, oh my! Click through for weirdness!

​First up is Brass Against IV by Brass Against. To be completely honest, I don't expect that I spend a lot of time with this album moving forward. That said, this horn-driven collection of covers of bands like Tool, Ozzy Osbourne, Faith No More, The White Stripes, and others is fun enough when you're looking for some unobjectionable background music. It's novelty music for sure, but they're good at what they do. 

Up next is HAYWARDxDALEK, the collaborative album by the group of the same name. This is definitely outside of our normal lane here - it's an experimental hip hop album with heavy soundscape vibes. But it's dark and sinister, and MC Dalek has a lot of output that certainly falls into the heavy music category. If this act showed up at next years Caterwaul noise rock festival, I would be completely unsurprised. 

Now for something that fits more neatly into Both Kinds of Heavy's traditional bucket: Leaving is a new three song EP by post-metal band Count to Infinity. I came across this one on Reddit, where it's advertised as for fans of Cloudkicker, Mogwai, Jesu, etc. Instrumental post-metal with some progressive flair, this is exactly the type of instrumental music that gets me going, although not quite as heavy as our gold standards like Russian Circles. Still, it's a name your price album on Bandcamp Friday, so this was an easy purchase for me.​

Hoaxed put out a really strong debut album called Two Shadows a few years back, which in my mind didn't get the attention it deserved. It looks like the female-fronted doom band has a new album dropping in February, and the first single is here now. It's not a huge evolution of their melodic doom sound, but it didn't need a lot of refining. Check it out. 

The awkward-to-Google noise band Prostitute dropped their first album a little over a year ago, and it looks like they're gearing up for a new release as well. The new track Mr. Dada is fast, noisy, and chaotic. You know, good stuff. I would put money down that this Michigan-based band makes an appearance at next year's aforementioned Caterwaul festival. 

Kind of a cheat here, as I definitely haven't had time to work through all of this one. The community/label/whatever Weedian has compiled their 100 favorite doom tracks of 2025, and there's some fun stuff here, including some relatively well-known doom and stoner bands like Lo-Pan, Electric Citizen, Stoned Jesus, and Kal-El. There are also some lesser-known bands with hilarious names like Toilet Snake, Hey Satan, Godzillionaire, Miss Lava, and Tumbleweed Dealer. If you're not interested in checking out those bands, you're reading the wrong site. 

And we'll close today with Two Songs, the new EP from my beloved grindcore heroes, Missouri Executive Order 44. At three minutes and two minutes respectively, these two tracks are epics by MEO44 standards - their last album packed 11 tracks into 15 minutes. These two songs are still noisy and furious, but they're clearly exploring a new direction here, with a new vocal approach and more complex song structure. I'm excited to see what they do next.
