My header image says "Metal. Fitness. Miscellaneous Nonsense." I've delivered posts on both of the first two, and have yet to write anything that falls into the third category. Until now!
Okay, so this is really just a few little metal and fitness-related tidbits that didn't quite amount to full posts on their own.
- My workplace has a lot of health-related perks, and I took advantage of one for the first time today: an InBody scan. These devices claim to measure muscle, fat, and other indicators of health. They're not considered as accurate as a Dexa scan, but nevertheless my results were... disappointing. According to the scan, I've got both more fat and less muscle than I expected. But, my arms and legs are both far more symmetrical than most, so hey, partial success?
- Last week, I preordered the new album from Chat Pile and Hayden Pedigo. Apparently, my bank didn't care for the weirdly named label releasing the album (Computer Students) and locked my bank card for fraud.
- Speaking of less-than-ideal record label transactions, I had placed a preorder from UK-based label Rocket Recordings a while back for the Rùn album. The week it was released, the news came out that many overseas postal services would stop shipping to the United States. I emailed the label to see if they would still be sending my package or not, and it looks like they got it out in before the policy change went into effect. They should reach me soon - but they haven't arrived yet.
- Today, I finished listening to the audiobook of Rush frontman Geddy Lee's autobiography, My Effin' Life. This is despite the fact that I've never been much of a Rush fan. I'll have a post soon about this and other music-related books I've read recently, but I'll tip my hand a bit and say that now I'm kinda sad that I never gave Rush much of a chance while they were still around.
- Minneapolis local madmen Murf have announced what is supposedly their final show in later October, and they're a good time live - their shows involve a lot of nonsense like inflatable sex dolls and Mad Max-style costumes. But the real draw for me is opener Missouri Executive Order 44, who put on the most furious show I've seen in years a while back at my favorite local punk venue. They really have to be seen to be understood - the sub-two minute video below is really worth your time.
